O’Sullivan Davies Lawyers names OVIS Community Services as charity for Q4
O’Sullivan Davies Lawyers is proud to announce their chosen charity for the fourth quarter of 2020, OVIS Community Services.
The mission of OVIS Community Services is to empower people to have a future free from violence and abuse. This mission is well aligned to the work of O’Sullivan Davies, including their professional development seminars to help educate Perth family lawyers on topics such as stalking and non-fatal strangulation.
O’Sullivan Davies founding partner Andrew Davies said that often abusive partners isolate victims from their family and friends, making it more difficult for those victims to leave.
“Putting strategies in place is critical for the safety of the victims and children”, Mr Davies said.
“Supporting local charity OVIS Community Services is like an extension of supporting our clients. It’s extremely important that victims of family violence have the support they need in order to leave dangerous situations, because statistics show that those situations can become fatal.”
Founded in 1984, the OVIS Community Services board (formerly known as Pat Thomas House) continues to be the leading provider of family violence services in the Peel region.
Services offered to clients include education to women and children in the refuge, education in schools, keeping women safe in their home, crisis accommodation, court support, survivor support and transitional housing.
O’Sullivan Davies Senior Paralegal Janelle Easom has recently joined the OVIS Community Services board.
“Being part of OVIS Community Services is a rewarding opportunity and I look forward to contributing to women and children affected by family violence” Ms Easom said.
Ms Easom went on to say “OVIS Community Services has just been appointed as the operator of the new Peel Therapeutic Refuge which is due to open in November 2020.”
“This new refuge will provide accommodation as well as tailored and holistic therapeutic services for women and their children suffering family violence.”
“This integrated therapeutic refuge model is the first of its kind in WA.”
Rather than a lavish party to celebrate their 20th anniversary, O’Sullivan Davies Lawyers decided to divert their efforts in a meaningful way with a year-long charity program, supporting a different charity each quarter.
Last quarter for Perth Homeless Support Inc., the firm and O’Sullivan Davies staff donated a combination of cash and vouchers for Coles and for Dome, as requested by the charity.
